Dear Friends,
On 19th July 2016, on the occasion of Guru Purnima; my niece, Sanchi Mahawar left for her heavenly abode. She left the mortal body after fighting for life for two months from rare SLE disease.
Sanchi Mahawar (31-07-2004 to 19-07-2016)
At this time, when my family is still mourning this great irreversible loss, I pray for the departed soul and may her soul rest in peace.
Below is the shanti mantra from Katho Upanishad
ॐ सह नाववतु |
सह नौ भुनक्तु |
सह वीर्यं करवावहै |
तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै॥
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥
English Transalation:
Oṃ saha nāv avatu
saha nau bhunaktu
saha vīryaṃ karavāvahai
tejasvi nāv adhītam astu
mā vidviṣāvahai |
Om śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ ||
Meaning:
Aum! May He protect us both together; may He nourish us both together;
May we work conjointly with great energy,
May our study be vigorous and effective;
May we not mutually dispute (or may we not hate any).
Aum! Let there be peace in me!
Let there be peace in my environment!
Let there be peace in the forces that act on me!
“We are not human beings on this spiritual journey,
But we are spiritual beings on this human journey.”
This quote makes me wonder about our existence and this entire creation in itself.
Life becomes meaningful when we closely understand the purpose of our existence beyond the realm of physical matters or five elements alone. As its familiar that our physical existence revolves around five elements – Fire, Air, Space, Earth and Water. There is more to our existence which cannot be described in words alone and which can only be experienced. I would like to end with a shloka from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय ।
तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ।
मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
English Transalation:
Om Asato Maa Sad-Gamaya |
Tamaso Maa Jyotir-Gamaya |
Mrtyor-Maa Amrtam Gamaya |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||
Meaning:
1: Om, (O Lord) Keep me not in the Unreality (of the bondage of the Phenomenal World), but lead me towards the Reality (of the Eternal Self),
2: (O Lord) Keep me not in the Darkness (of Ignorance), but lead me towards the Light (of Spiritual Knowledge),
3: (O Lord) Keep me not in the (Fear of) Death (due to the bondage of the Mortal World), but lead me towards the Immortality (gained by the Knowledge of the Immortal Self beyond Death),
4: Om, (May there be) Peace, Peace, Peace (at the the three levels – Adidaivika, Adibhautika and Adhyatmika).
I wish that mysterious cycle of “Exist – Evolve – Express – Extinguish” will be better understood someday.
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||
