‘Code Formatter’ || ‘ ‘ || ‘That Too Online Is’ := ‘Awesome’

14 Oct

Like all GOOD developers I do have trouble reading my own code.  Which had given me sleepless nights.

Seeing your piece of code move from Development to Production is a unique experience and needs no explanation and you cannot express that feelingin words.

But when you are given responsibility to support it during production then you start getting nightmares🙂

Writing a code seems easier but owning becomes even more difficult when you master piece moves to Production Environment there is no escaping.

Hence it becomes important to standardize your code. One way of doing is Formatting and Beautifying your ‘master piece’.

There are various tools available to format PL/SQL code.

1. Quest Software offers Toad – Formatter Plus, this would require you to download and install Toad-Formatter Plus on your machine, Windows user can anytime go for this. Linux Users can try Tora (Linux version of Toad).

2. In case you don’t want to install any software in your machine or the company restricts installation of such software, you can use the online formatting utlities as well – Sounds great , though they offer only formatting and not beautification (so sad) . Anways formatting is what matters the most.

SQL and PL/SQL Formatter offers online formatting of your piece of code

Working in production environment requires you to understand your code which is possible only if your code is properly maintained and formatted.

Hope FORMATTING makes your life BEAUTIFUL.
Cheers!!

      Thanks Altagracia.
      If you are having TOAD. I highly recommend using its formatter option for code formatting and beautification. Its highly customizable and you can export/import your personalized format option settings from one machine to another.
